So, this tuesday I finally decided to use some gift cards I had gotten to the local cinema. I took my mom to watch The Great Gatsby because we had both seen the trailer and really liked it. (And I have no friends who like such things). BUT the important thing is how surprised I was of the whole experience - and that in the epic way! First time I have gone to the local cinema and they only have one room for showing films but it is rather nice, so are the people who stand in the tiny treats department just outside that room. We had gotten seats WAY in the back as we always do in the bigger cinemas and I was worried that the screen was a lot smaller than when I usually go. But it was still flawless sight. Then they also had very “1920’s” music playing before it started, which was great until all the modern commercials came on but that’s not something you can really complain about. UNTO THE FILM OMG THE FEELS: The first 20 minutes or so I think I just sat there, blown away by the beautiful pictures that are this film! Holy moly, I was stunned! It is one of those films that make you wish you could just “jump into the screen/story”. Next thing I really notice is the soundtrack, as their is a big party scene. And let me tell you, they have found a bunch of modern and popular artists and mashed some modern music together to make is sound like “1920“‘s! It is perfect because it makes you want to dance and move as modern music would yet it still fits the film and it’s time. It is simply perfect in my mind. And in the end the story is beautiful as well. I’m not one for watching romance or drama films, but this one got the best of me. It was funny, then tragic, happy, sad and just as beautiful as the pictures in the end. Overall, I don’t recall one thing I didn’t like about it. The actors were great as well. I am sure I would be able to pick out bad things when watching it again, at home on DVD or Blu-ray. But for now, The Great Gatsby stands as a brilliant and near perfect film in my eyes, by Baz Luhrmann. It is a must see = I would definitely recommend it!
